Canadian Man wins nearly $2 million in Gambling at WPT

A Canadian man won nearly $ 2 million in gambling at the World Poker Tournament last week. President of a Canadian company servicing bank machines, David Matthew, won the huge amount when he stood second at the World Poker Tournament (WPT). Matthew won an astonishing $1,903,950 on 24th April 2006 at the online tournament while playing a game of Texas Hold’em.

Matthew, 47, wants to use the money to pay off all his debts and help his loved ones. He now wants to pursue the game full time. He paid a very small amount of $25 at ParadisePoker.com to qualify for the first round of WPT at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino and took it from there.

“Going to the casino and playing for money is gambling, but playing tournaments is not gambling. It's basically a contest, just like, I would say, Tiger Woods goes and plays golf. He plays a contest, he doesn't go and just play golf. He's actually in a tournament competing against other great players”, said Matthew.

Matthew explained that he was a regular player at the online poker tournaments and regular casinos since the last one year. He had active support from his wife. Matthew had learned to play Texas Hold’em just two years ago at a Vegas Casino.
