Baccarat is a word that exists both in Italian and French. “Baccarat” means “Zero”. The country of origin of baccarat is still a question of debate. There are many versions of the game’s origin.
One of the versions states that Baccarat was first invented in the middle ages by an Italian gambler whose name was Felix Falguierein. The game was initially played with a deck of Tarot cards.
Later, baccarat was introduced in France around 1490 A.D. It was exclusively played by French noblemen; it later evolved into a casino game.
The French version of baccarat “Chemin de Fer” became popular in England. Englishmen changed the rules of the game. They also renamed the game to “European Baccarat”. From England, baccarat made its way to South America.
In the late 1950s, United States of America was exposed to baccarat by Tommy Renzoni. He combined French “Chemin de Fur” and European baccarat which gained tremendous popularity in the casinos of Las Vegas.
