The players played on a cardboard sheet with a rubber stamp and dried beans. When playing the game, some players started shouting BINGO instead of the word Beano.

A dealer selected some numbered discs from a cigar box. The players marked their cards with beans, and then they shouted "beano" if they won. Thus, Bingo was born.
